Trepido is a snail who wears glasses from 1, Rue Sésame, the first French co-production of Sesame Street. Before having moved to the street, Trepido had already been good friends with Mordicus.
A live-hand puppet, Trepido could appear in the middle of the street by being performed over the same manhole Mordicus occasionally occupies. Their design would later inspire that of the much smaller Finchen from Sesamstrasse.
