Super Grover appears as his mild-mannered alter ego, Grover Kent (ace doorknob salesman for Acme Inc.). He happens upon a little girl crying because she is lost. Grover must help her, but needs to find a telephone booth to change into his superhero persona. As he looks around, the girl recalls that she has a dime and can use the phone to call home.
Grover instead barges into the phone booth ahead of her to change. He keeps emerging not fully in his superhero outfit, to the dismay of the little girl ("That gentleman is no gentleman."). Finally, Super Grover is ready to save the day, and the girl takes the opportunity to get in the phone booth. To help her, he picks up the phone booth and starts carrying it off to bring her home.
Supporting cast
- Jerry Nelson as the announcer and little girl
Revisions
- The segment's first airing is very different compared to ones from season 6 onward. Though it uses the same video footage, the music score throughout is more of a march than the usual fanfares. The initial airing also cuts Super Grover's first emerging out of the phone booth (still wearing his Grover Kent hat, glasses, and suitcase) and concludes with Grover crashing with the phone booth offscreen. The revised version also adds a close-up of Super Grover before he lifts it off the ground.
- This segment begins with a prologue, where a trio of Anything Muppets (Jim Henson, Jerry Nelson, and Richard Hunt) point at the sky and locate Super Grover ("Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...") before he crashes in front of them. Starting with Episode 1096, the prologue is omitted.
