Before the play begins, Prairie Dawn informs the audience that the production was written, directed, and stage managed by Bert - "If the play is just wonderful, you can thank Bert. But if the play is horrible, you have no one but Bert to blame."

Bert also stars as the tooth, nervous about his performance and the crowd's reception to the show. Herry Monster appears as tooth decay, portrayed as a cliched, mustache-twirling villain. Grover dons a toothpaste costume and Ernie uses a large toothbrush to scrub Bert. Cookie Monster intends to follow the script to the letter by washing Bert with water instead of confetti, but tricks Bert by using confetti anyway. The play ends with Bert gladly accepting the applause from his public.
