Prairie Dawn introduces the Sesame Street Little Theater production of "A Flower Grows," the first of what would become her many pageants.
Ernie plays Bart, who plants a flower seed in a pot. The seed receives nourishment from the sun (played by Herry Monster, tripping over on his way offstage) and a rain cloud (played by a nervous Cookie Monster, dumping a whole bucket of water on the soil). Finally, the flower sprouts and blooms, portrayed by Bert. He admits he feels foolish in his lettuce leaf-decorated outfit, and sends the monsters into a frenzy as they start to eat it.
