An Anything Muppet girl takes Prairie Dawn's place for today's pageant about the life of a butterfly. Ernie appears to display art cards transitioning between scenes.
First, a pair of Muppet kids portray the first stage as eggs. Next, a humiliated Bert takes the stage as the young caterpillar hatching from the egg, and then crawling into the cocoon. Finally, it hatches and Herry Monster emerges as the butterfly. They tie a rope to him and hoist him up into the air to simulate flying (and neglect to bring him back down as the show ends).
