Gunga Din is a 1939 film loosely based on the Rudyard Kipling poem of the same name about a faithful Indian water carrier. However, the film focused more heavily on a trio of British soldiers assigned in India (from Kipling's Soldiers Three stories) and added a romantic subplot. The film's cast included Cary Grant, Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Joan Fontaine, and in the title role, Sam Jaffe (later of Ben Casey).
