Goofy is one of the star animated characters from the Walt Disney Company. The character first appeared in a 1932 short, originally named Dippy Dawg. The character evolved over time into a dimwitted klutz, best known for his many "How To" cartoons and shorts pairing him with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Caroll Spinney commented about the creation of Big Bird. "Then came the question of what the bird sounded like. Jim suggested Goofy, Mickey Mouse's friend, but that turned out to be a slightly wrong lead. What came out was a drawl that was hard for children to understand."^[1]

• In episode 320 of The Muppet Show, during the song "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off", after the lion sings "I like Plato and you like Pluto", Sylvester Stallone says "You can have Plato, and I'll stick with Pluto, and Mickey, and Goofy."

• Kermit the Frog is gifted a Goofy hat by Michael Eisner in the intro taped for The Magical World of Disney airing of A Muppet Family Christmas. Eisner claims Goofy picked it out himself.

• Goofy appears on a TV set in the "Baby and the Beanstalk" story from the first issue of the Dinosaurs comic book.

• In The Muppets' Wizard of Oz, the "Goofy Holler" is used when the Tin Thing falls through the Wizard's trap door.

• On September 7, 2007, following Disney's purchase of the Muppets, a pin was released for sale only at Walt Disney World, featuring Kermit as Mickey Mouse, Miss Piggy as Minnie Mouse, Fozzie Bear as Goofy and Rizzo the Rat as Tinker Bell.
