Caddyshack is a 1980 comedy film about a young golf caddie trying to get a caddie scholarship for college. A sequel was released in 1988 with only Chevy Chase returning.
One famous scene features Carl Spackler (played by Bill Murray) as he goes into an imaginary commentary about a "Cinderella story." Murray's character is tasked with eliminating a troublesome gopher (portrayed by a puppet) who emerges from a golf hole at the end of the movie and dances to "I'm Alright" by Kenny Loggins.

- In the Farscape episode "Beware of Dog," Crichton plays a version of golf while on board Moya. While playing, Crichton gives a similar imaginary commentary and sings, "He's a Cinderella boy," quoting a piece of dialogue from Murray's monologue while also imitating Murray himself.
- Following a mini golf plot in Sesame Street Episode 5529, a gopher pops up out of a golf hole with a burst of dirt and begins dancing to a parody of the Caddyshack theme song by Loggins.
